Ballinrobe Town A.F.C. A.G.M

By Patrick Hennelly

ON Friday January 25, the A.G.M. of Ballinrobe Town A.F.C. took place before a well attended gathering at the Parish Centre.

Chairman Declan Fitzpatrick, reflected on what was a successful season for the South Mayo club, as the red and white secured promotion to the Super League for the 2008 season, and Fitzpatrick thanked those in attendance in the Parish Centre on the night.

It was also noted that the underage and youth teams are making progress and those involved with the club who are coaching at that level, are hoping for success in the future, and they are confident that this will be achieved.

The club are also happy that both Pawel Kurleto and J.P. O’Gorman were named on the Mayo Premier Division team of the Year for the 2007 season.

Ballinrobe Town A.F.C. are looking forward to the upcoming Super League season and there is confidence within the club that a successful season can be achieved in the higher echelons of the Mayo game.

As regards the Ballinrobe Town Ladies team, manager Jeremy Dee rued the fact that injuries took their toll on his young squad. Ballinrobe suffered a narrow defeat in the Shield Final, despite playing some neat football.

However, the ladies team still managed to garner second place in the league and that is obviously a stepping stone in the right direction. Dee was also pleased that Anne Moran played for the Irish Under-19 team against Poland in Limerick and that both she and Katie Walsh represented the club in the Women’s UEFA Cup, which took place in Austria, last August.

The following Committee were elected for the upcoming 2008 season: Honorary President, Steven Staunton; Chairperson, Declan Fitzpatrick; Vice-Chairperson, Kevin Connolly; Secretary, Jimmy McDonnell; Assistant Secretary, Brian Gibbons; Treasurer, Maureen O’Malley; Assistant Treasurer, Barry Gibbons; Registrar, Jimmy McDonnell; P.R.O., Patrick Hennelly; Girls and Ladies Committee Representative, Mary McGrath; Boys and Men’s Representative, Sean Dunleavy and Maurice Walsh; Ladies team Representative, Katie Walsh.
